Job Title: Environmental Officer – Carbon Credits Project Development

Overview: 

We are seeking a dynamic and environmentally conscious Environmental Officer to join our team and contribute to our carbon credits development projects. The Environmental Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, implementing sustainable practices, and overseeing field operations related to carbon credits initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct on-site environmental assessments and surveys to identify opportunities for carbon credits development and assess environmental impacts.
  2. Collaborate with project teams to integrate carbon credits considerations into project planning and execution.
  3. Develop and implement environmental management plans specific to carbon credits projects, including reforestation, afforestation, and renewable energy initiatives.
  4. Monitor and evaluate carbon sequestration activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements and environmental regulations.
  5. Coordinate with local communities, landowners, and stakeholders to secure land access and permissions for carbon credits projects.
  6. Conduct field inspections and monitoring to verify project activities and carbon sequestration outcomes.
  7. Assist in the development of carbon accounting methodologies and verification processes to quantify and certify carbon credits.
  8. Prepare environmental impact assessments and regulatory submissions for carbon credits projects.
  9. Provide training and support to project teams and field staff on environmental best practices and compliance requirements.
  10. Collaborate with third-party auditors and certification bodies to ensure the credibility and integrity of carbon credits projects.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. At least 2-3 years of experience in environmental management, with a focus on carbon credits development or related initiatives.
  3. Strong understanding of carbon accounting principles, carbon offset standards, and methodologies (e.g., VCS, CDM, Gold Standard).
  4. Experience conducting fieldwork in diverse environmental settings, with the ability to work effectively in remote and challenging environments.
  5. Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes, particularly related to land use and forestry.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  7. Proficiency in GIS software and other environmental monitoring tools.
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
  9. Willingness to travel frequently for fieldwork and project site visits.
  10. Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to mitigating climate change through carbon credits initiatives.
