Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and environmentally conscious Environmental Officer to join our team and contribute to our carbon credits development projects. The Environmental Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, implementing sustainable practices, and overseeing field operations related to carbon credits initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site environmental assessments and surveys to identify opportunities for carbon credits development and assess environmental impacts.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate carbon credits considerations into project planning and execution.
- Develop and implement environmental management plans specific to carbon credits projects, including reforestation, afforestation, and renewable energy initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate carbon sequestration activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate with local communities, landowners, and stakeholders to secure land access and permissions for carbon credits projects.
- Conduct field inspections and monitoring to verify project activities and carbon sequestration outcomes.
- Assist in the development of carbon accounting methodologies and verification processes to quantify and certify carbon credits.
- Prepare environmental impact assessments and regulatory submissions for carbon credits projects.
- Provide training and support to project teams and field staff on environmental best practices and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with third-party auditors and certification bodies to ensure the credibility and integrity of carbon credits projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in environmental management, with a focus on carbon credits development or related initiatives.
- Strong understanding of carbon accounting principles, carbon offset standards, and methodologies (e.g., VCS, CDM, Gold Standard).
- Experience conducting fieldwork in diverse environmental settings, with the ability to work effectively in remote and challenging environments.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes, particularly related to land use and forestry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in GIS software and other environmental monitoring tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
- Willingness to travel frequently for fieldwork and project site visits.
- Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to mitigating climate change through carbon credits initiatives.
